Our rings
On our recent trip to Lisbon (by recent I mean last year!) we decided to try and track down some wedding rings. We had previously bought both our commitment rings, as well as Cat’s engagement ring in Lisbon, so we wanted to carry on the tradition.
We knew we wanted 19.2 caret gold (Portuguese gold is unique in that it comes in 19.2 caret rather than the 18 caret that is seen in the rest of the world) to match her engagement ring.
After trying many shops, we settled on 2 rings from the shop we almost got the engagement ring from. They are actually commitment rings, but I wanted a lightweight band, rather than anything chunky.
Fortunately we managed to order them to arrive before we flew back to England. They are made of white gold, and I think look really good (as long as I don’t get fatter fingers between now and June – I wanted a tight band).
Can’t wait to put them on for real!!

I am off to Lisbon in november to propose to my girlfriend, am wanting to buy a ring over there, are there many jewellers in or around lisbon and are they expensive?

Hi Neil,
As you can read on the post the gold in Portugal is 19.2 caret so you might find quite a few cheaper in the UK as there are 9 caret available.
Down town area of Lisbon has many jewellers. A street called Rua Augusta which is closed to traffic and faces the river is where we bought ours. It is unmissable as it is one of the most visited areas. There are smaller streets to the right (facing the river) which also have jewellers and lead to a parallel street which is called Rua Aurea (Gold street)with lots more. That is where we bought the engagement ring.
